Becoming ULEZ-ready with Eminox retrofit
Established in 1947, Hearn’s Coaches has grown to be one of the largest independently owned coach companies in Southern England. With its main depot in Harrow, North West London – within the current Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and the majority of its journeys involving travel into London – the company knew it had to be ready for October 2020, when the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) would be extended to cover the area of the existing LEZ.
This meant ensuring its fleet of 46 vehicles met Euro VI emissions regulations. Hearn’s chose Eminox to provide the SCRT® retrofit solutions for its Mercedes Turismo coaches, upgrading them from Euro V to Euro VI. This was more cost-effective than replacing vehicles and protected the company’s investment by ensuring maximum fleet utilisation and safeguarding residual values.
“After thoroughly assessing our options in the retrofit market, we considered Eminox to be the company of choice for converting our vehicles to the Euro VI standard,”
“It was the only company with the scale of operations and support in the UK, along with technical capability that could give us the confidence that a solution would be provided on time and on budget. Eminox’s retrofit SCRT® technology allows our existing vehicles to meet the ULEZ requirements, which is vital for our business.”
Jamie Thacker, Director of Hearn’s.
Hearn’s and Eminox are working together closely on the project, which is the first UK retrofit of a Mercedes Turismo Euro V coach. Hearn’s provided one of its coaches as a test vehicle to allow the SCRT® technology to be developed to meet the space and emissions characteristics of the Touirismo. The retrofit of a further 12 vehicles, representing 25% of the Hearn’s fleet will be carried out at Eminox’s Stoke-on-Trent service and support centre.
Thanks to Eminox, Hearn’s expects to be ready well in advance of October.
